Chlorothalonil export drops in H1 2013

In the first half of 2013, China's export volume of chlorothalonil technical and formulations dropped by 22.50% compared with that in H1 2012 to about 7,786 tonnes, according to the data from the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China (China Customs) and Fungicides China News issued by CCM in September.

Specifically, the export volume of chlorothalonil technical, including 96% TC, 97% TC and 98% TC, decreased to about 6,057 tonnes in H1 2013, down by 22.92% year on year. In the first six months of 2013 China exported about 1,729 tonnes of chlorothalonil formulations, including 40% SC, 72% SC and 75% WP, down by 20.99% year on year.

Among three technical specifications, 97% chlorothalonil TC ranked the first place by export volume, amounting to 4,213 tonnes in H1 2013, accounting for 69.55% of the total for chlorothalonil technical, followed by 98% TC (1,814 tonnes). As to 96% chlorothalonil TC, its export volume was the least, only about 30 tonnes (it was exported in Feb. and March 2013, and its export volume was zero in the rest of the months of H1 2013).

Chorothalonil 72% SC was the largest export specification of chlorothalonil formulations by export volume in H1 2103, totaling 880 tonnes, exceeding 50% of the total for cholorothalonil formulations. Chlorothalonil 75% WP ranked the second place by export volume, reaching 550 tonnes, accounting for 31.81%; the export volume of chlorothalonil 40% SC was the least in H1 2013, about 298 tonnes.

Among the two major cholorothalonil technical specifications (97% and 98%), their average export prices remained stable in the first half of 2013. Specifically, the average export price of  97% chlorothalonil TC was between USD3.8/kg and USD4.0/kg from Jan. to June 2013 and that of 98% chlorothalonil TC floated between USD4.5/kg and USD4.9/kg in the first five months of this year, only decreasing to about USD4.3/kg in June 2013.

Round-up of China’s Glyphosate Intelligence in Q1 2013

On 27th June, 2013, CCM is going to hold a free webinar to share the latest intelligence on China’s glyphosate market in Q1 2013. Since 2011, CCM has held several webinars in relation to China’s glyphosate industry. The upcoming webinar features the following highlights

Impacts Resulted from the Cancellation of 13% Export Rebate Rate on PMIDA
After the cancellation of 13% export rebate rate on PMIDA, Chinese PMIDA manufacturers are likely to suffer higher export cost. In order to mitigate the cost pressure, they have to increase their export price. However, during the past several months, the ex-factory price and the export price of PMIDA in China have remained stable as the overseas demand for PMIDA is not quite large. Influenced by the limited overseas demand, the ex-factory price has not shown a drastic increase. The ex-factory price fluctuated between $17,000/ton and $17,700/ton in Q1 2013.

Export Dynamics
The total A.I. volume (100% glyphosate acid equivalent) of China's exported glyphosate related products in Q1 2013 increased by 74% and 39% over Q1 2011 and Q1 2012, with the total export value up by 145% and 78% over Q1 2011 and Q1 2012 respectively.

Price Dynamics
Influenced by the financial crisis in 2008, the overseas demand for glyphosate maintained sluggish for a certain period. In addition, China’s glyphosate industry encountered overcapacity resulted from blind expansion. Under this circumstance, China’s glyphosate market entered a gloomy period from 2009–2011. During these three years, the glyphosate price was generally in a rather low level. Some middle-to-small scale glyphosate manufacturers were weeded out of the market. China’s capacity of glyphosate also dropped to about 650,000 tonnes.

The demand for glyphosate has witnessed an uptrend since the second half year of 2012. The glyphosate price also began to increase in the second half year of 2012. At present, the glyphosate products price remains at a high level.

Company Dynamics
Nantong Jiangshan Agrochemical & Chemicals Co., Ltd. (Nantong Jiangshan), Zhejiang Wynca Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd. (Zhejiang Wynca) and Anhui Huaxing Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. (Anhui Huaxing) all achieved great operating performance in 2012, thanks to the thriving market and rising profitability of glyphosate. With the enhancing profitability of glyphosate and PMIDA business in Q1 2013, the three companies all turned loss into gain in Q1 2013.

The registration for the webinar is available now. For more information, please visit: http://www.cnchemicals.com/Event/EventDetailWebinar_44.html

Production of propanil during 1970s and 1990s

In 2012, the export volume of Chinese homemade propanil is sharply increasing, due to rising overseas demand, especially from Africa. In the next few years, this trend will continue, but growth is predicted not to increase as much as it did in 2012. There is still a chance for the propanil industry to further change its gloomy situation before 2012 if its future export remains stable. Actually, the domestic supply of propanil in China far exceeds its demand. Chinese propanil import is so small that CCM does not conduct import analysis on it.

In the 1970s, the former Shenyang Pesticide Factory was engaged in producing propanil. Then the production was stopped for a long time for some particular reason. In the 1990s, a large number of manufacturers were engaging in propanil production. However, the production was unstable and many of them had given up their production during these years. Later, some companies took a fancy to the market potential of propanil in China and set up production lines or enlarged their production capacities. Thus after 2000, the production of propanil developed rapidly in China.

As an old variety of herbicide, propanil has been produced in China for 50 years. There were four pioneer propanil producers in China: Formerly Wushun Pesticide Factory (500 t/a 20% EC) Formerly Hegang Pesticide Factory (200 t/a 20% EC) Formerly Hengyang Pesticide Factory Formerly Beijing Double-Bridge Pesticide Factory. However, little progress had been made in the following decades. The latter two manufacturers even closed or changed into other enterprises.

In some foreign countries, use of propanil is forbidden or restricted. In July 2003, Dow AgroSciences LLC, RiceCo LLC and Agrilliance LLC voluntarily asked to amend or cancel their product registrations to terminate the use of propanil on small grains. According to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No. 1078/2011, the placing of the active substance propanil products on the market doesn't have approval in the EU because of health concerns.

Production and Market of Propanil in China is CCM's second edition of its report on the Chinese propanil industry, completed in April 2013. This intelligent report attaches importance to the following parts:
1.       Production summary of propanil (its capacity, output and key manufacturers) and consumption summary by volume in China during 2010-2012.
2.       Detailed study of propanil's upstream industry (its supply, manufacturers, price, etc.)
3.       Price of propanil during 2007-2012 and the export of propanil technical and formulations during 2011-2012.
4.       Forecast of the Chinese propanil industry to 2017.
5.       Key factors influencing the development of propanil in China.

Abamectin producers are facing the challenge of industry reshuffle

The pesticide is an important class of agricultural chemicals that is closely related to human survival activities. Abamectin is an antiparasitic activity antibiotics and the producing bacteria is Streptomycesavermiti2lis.Abamectin not only have the general characteristics of biological pesticides, but also novel chemical structure, unique mechanism of action, strong insecticidal activity and a broad spectrum insecticide. It is known as a major breakthrough of antiparasitic properties in the past 20 years. At the same time, it is also one of the most popular and competitive products in the market of biological pesticides.

Abamectin manufacturer developing together is an important measure of China Pesticide Industry Association. The abamectin collaborative group, which was established to regulate the market order, actively strengthen communication and contact with relevant government departments, will work together to create sustainable and good environment development. After many years of industrialization development, China has become the largest producer and exporter of global abamectin and has made huge progress in both international and domestic market share, and the product quality. Abamectin has developed into an important insecticide miticide varieties.

It is predicted that abamectin producers are facing the challenge of industry reshuffle. On one hand, pests' resistance to abamectin has been reinforcing, so the growth of demand for abamectin will slow down in the future. On the other hand, abamectin will face more intense competition from foreign products such as chlorantraniliprole, and its cost is rising because of the policy of banning the sale of abamectin ointment. Abamectin technical producers are facing the challenge of industry reshuffle, pests' resistance to abamectin is increasing and the competition from foreign products is becoming more and more intense, who will win in the end? The selling of abamectin ointment has been investigated by GAQSIQ since May 2012, will this event impact on abamectin industry? Domestic market is under pressure, but export volume is increasing. How about the demand of abamectin in recently years?

As the mentioned above, CCM has launched a professional report “Data Report-Abamectin Survey in China”, which may help you to answer the questions. Presenting an in-depth analysis on China’s current abamectin market, this report attaches great importance to the following aspects: supply summary of abamectin technical (capacity, output and key manufacturers), ex-works price, export situation, demand, registrations of abamectin in China, analysis on competing products of abamectin, analysis on investigation of abamectin ointment. The data is based on large number of first-hand information and advanced forecast method. If you want know more about abamectin industry or to invest in the abamectin industry, this report is an indispensable tool for you. If you need any information or data regarding abamectin industry, please feel free to contact us.

Banning Paraquat Raises Dispute in China

According to the information from the 4th China High-Level Forum on Pesticides held on Sept. 23 to 24, 2011, the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) will take measures to further restrict and forbid the use of paraquat and some other highly toxic pesticides in the near future, based on CCM’s latest issue of Crop Protection China News.

Though it is not a piece of new information in China, it is the first time for Chinese government to officially announce the restriction and forbidding of the use of paraquat.

As people are shocked by the official statement, dispute is raised in and out of domestic pesticide industry. As a non-selective herbicide, paraquat is largely used to control weeds in the fields of fruit, mulberry, rubber, corn, sugarcane, soybean, etc. Although it is featured by high efficient and low price, it is also famous for its high toxicity to human beings and animals. Once being poisoned, especially by oral intake, it is incurable.

Eyeing more than 5,000 people die annually from the poisoning caused by paraquat, many medical workers propose legislating against the use of paraquat in the National People's Congress. As more and more foreign countries have added paraquat into their ban lists, the voice of forbidding the use of paraquat in China has been even louder in the past two years.

However, most of domestic pesticide enterprises and dealers hold different opinions over the forbidding use of paraquat.

With years' development, China has become the largest paraquat producer in the world with the production capacity of paraquat TK reaching 152,500t/a in 2010. The total output of paraquat 42% TK reached 122,000 tonnes in 2010 with the operating rate of 80.0%, compared with 72.4% in the previous year.

As of April 2011, 553 paraquat registration applications from 272 enterprises, both temporary and formal, have been approved in China, including 63 for technical, 483 for single formulations and seven for mixed formulations.

Thus, once paraquat is forbidden, these pesticide players will suffer greatly. As a matter of fact, they will fight to delay the release and implementation of the policy to ban the use of paraquat.

"Domestic apparent consumption of paraquat formulations was 31,256 tonnes (calculated by 200g/L AS) in 2010. And obviously it is hard to find a substitute to replace it. Once it is forbidden, pesticide market will be affected greatly. Actually, it will do little harm to the environment and health of human being if the herbicide is used safely," said Mr. Yu, a district manager from Shandong Luba Chemical Co., Ltd. "Actually, there is a better way to decrease the happening of paraquat poisoning, which is to change the dominant formulation of paraquat AS into DP or ointment."

However, some insiders believe that the announcement from the 4th China High-Level Forum on Pesticides is just a statement of Chinese government to declare its attitude towards highly toxic pesticides. Banning paraquat or not is still can't be nailed down and the implementation of the policy is still beyond expectation. If government carries out the policy, the worst condition of paraquat in the near future is that the use on several fruit or crops may be forced to be banned. The all-out ban on the product in China may still have a long way to go.

China Acephate Survey Expected To be Released This August

Guangzhou China, August 8, 2011 – CCM is going to publish a brand-new report this August, entitled Acephate Survey in China. Aimed to present you an in-depth and comprehensive view on Chinese acephate market, the upcoming report will show you aspects of acephate production, consumption as well as growth potential from 2011 to 2015.

Acephate, mainly applied to control pests with chewing mouthparts and piercing-sucking mouthparts, has witnessed fast demand growth in recent years. It is a kind of insecticide recommended by Chinese government to substitute methamidophos. The demand of domestic acephate has been robust in recent years. At the same time, as one of the products supported by the special fund for treasury bond in the National Eleventh Five-Year Plan from 2006 to 2010, acephate capacity experienced a fast growth. Compared with the capacity in 2006, the capacity in 2011 has increased more than 90%. Now 24 companies have got technical registrations and 69 companies have got formulations registrations, and all of them are within validity. In order to prevent the potential possibility of over capacity, government is planning to make relevant policies to control the acephate technical capacity. It would not repeat the over capacity mistake like the one of glyphosate in China and would develop in a sustainable way.

The following aspects will be covered in this research:
-To provide overview on Chinese acephate industry.
-To survey current production situation of acephate technical and formulations.
-To reveal production technologies adopted by domestic producers.
-To identify major acephate suppliers in China.
-To analyze demand for acephate.
-To reveal influencing factors and drivers for Chinese acephate development.
