Production and Market Situation of Sodium Gluconate in China

CCM has lately released its third edition of report in relation to Sodium Gluconate (SG), namely Production and Market of Sodium Gluconate in China, which focuses on the production situation of China’s sodium gluconate in recent three years. The report also introduces major domestic producers and major situation of downstream fields of sodium gluconate.

As one of the major SG suppliers in the world, China’s SG roduction has been witnessing a rapid development over the past ten years, which has greatly boosted China's total SG output. In recent years, several enterprises have swarmed into the domestic SG industry. The production of SG in China has concentrated in the major corn-producing areas. However, the production concentration rate of SG is not high. China's SG industry has encountered a slowdown situation and entered an integration phase.

In the report, CCM lists a series of figures to summarize SG and its related products’ capacity and output situation in China during 2006-2012, which includes: capacity distribution of corn starch in China in 2012; capacity and output of corn starch in China during 2006-2012; capacity and output of glucose monohydrate in China during 2008-2012; capacity and output of anhydrous glucose in China during 2008-2012; capacity and output of SG in China during 2004-H1 2013; capacity distribution of SG in China in 2012; output distribution of SG in China in 2012.

The report also analyzes the key factors that have been influencing the development of China’s SG industry. The report reveals that the demand from the construction industry is the dominant factor affecting SG price in China. Currently, China's SG industry still depends mostly on demand from the construction industry. The domestic SG consumption in concrete additive greatly increased in 2012, but the growth has slowed down obviously over the recent two years. Due to the slower growth of demand from the domestic construction industry, China’s SG price has continued decreasing since 2011, although the prices of major raw materials remain high.

CCM also gives a forecast on China's SG industry in the next five years. According to the report, China's SG will be more competitive in the world in the coming years. After two years' recession, the world economy showed a recovery in H1 2013. Overseas markets are surely to play an increasing important role in China's SG industry.

Production and Market of Turpentine in China

CCM’s recently-issued report, Production and Market of Turpentine in China, which focuses on the current and potential market of two kinds of turpentine, namely gum turpentine (GT) and crude sulphate turpentine (CST), which are by-products of gum rosin and wood pulp respectively. Highlights of the report include: production situation of turpentine in the past few years in China (the latest data was updated as of H1 2013); analysis of export & import data of China’s turpentine during 2009–H1 of 2013; consumption pattern of turpentine in China during 2005–2012; forecast of China’s turpentine from 2013 to 2017, in which the estimated data related to the output volume, export volume, and consumption volume of China’s turpentine are provided.

It is known that China has abundant pine resources, which has supported China to be the largest producer of gum turpentine in the world—with the contribution rate of about 45%. Nowadays, China’s gum turpentine is mainly used to produce terpene resin, synthetic camphor, terpineol, etc.

Generally speaking, China’s gum turpentine production is greatly influenced by the production of gum rosin. Guangxi, Yunnan, Guangdong, Fujian and Jiangxi provinces are the top five gum turpentine production regions in China during 2004–2012, and the total output of gum turpentine contributed by these five regions accounted for over 85% of the total output nationwide. According to CCM’s monitoring, the output of gum turpentine has changed in a big margin in recent five years. It dropped sharply in 2008 as affected by the snow storm in South China and global financial crisis. Influenced by the strong downstream demand, the output of China’s gum turpentine witnessed an increase in 2011. However, in 2012 and the first half of 2013, the output of China’s gum turpentine kept decreasing due to the reduction in the output of gum rosin.

With respect to the export situation, the main export destinations of China’s gum turpentine include Japan, Mexico, France, India, etc. China’s gum turpentine export volume remained high before 2007. But along with the cancellation of the export rebate rate for gum turpentine in April 2007 and rapid development of production of domestic gum turpentine derivatives, the export volume of gum turpentine dropped sharply in 2008 and 2009. In 2011, the export volume increased a lot, thanks to the recovery of world economy. However, it was small in 2012 because of the weak demand from overseas markets and fierce competition from counterparts in Indonesia.

The report also attaches importance to China’s gum turpentine price, which changed periodically as resulted from the seasonal price changes of oleoresin. During 2007–2010, the price of China’s gum turpentine has kept increasing and reached the peak in 2010. After 2011, the price began to decline drastically and hit the bottom in Aug. 2012 due to large stock and weak demand, but then it rebounded somehow.

As to crude sulphate turpentine (CST), only five active paper mills have recycled this material in 2012, and its output has kept decreasing in the past few years due to wood pulp production with fast-growing trees and pulp production with waste paper. In 2012, the output of CST was only 300 tonnes in China. At present, China’s crude sulphate turpentine is mainly used in fuel, paints & coating, solvent, and in the production of derivatives. In the report, CCM will give a complete introduction to CST, including its price, import and export situation, consumption, application, derivatives, as well as outlook of CST in the next ten years, and comparison of the turpentine availability between GT and CST, etc.

Brief of Company dynamics

Jiangsu Yoke should benefit from the developing phosphorus flame retardant industry. Bromine flame retardants such as hexabromocyclododecane (HBCD) are being phased out while phosphorus flame retardants are gaining ground.

At present, the top priority for Jiangsu Yoke shall be the digestion of expanding capacity. In 2013, the company intends to vigorously develop domestic consumer market besides further increasing the export scale. In view of the oversupply of middle and low products in domestic market, improving production process and product quality would be also crucial for Jiangsu Yoke.

Overview of China’s chlorpyrifos industry and forecast on the industry development trend to 2017

China has become the largest chlorpyrifos supplier in terms of capacity and output in the world and the chlorpyrifos produced by China has dominated the domestic market. Moreover, with low price and good quality, home-made chlorpyrifos has been expanding into the global market rapidly since 2006. Eyeing the increase of both export volume and value, some domestic producers, such as Nanjing Redsun, Jiangsu Baoling and Zhejiang Xinnong, have made breakthroughs in exploring the overseas market. However, the operating rate of chlorpyrifos technical manufacturers in China has been at low level in recent years, mostly because the demand growth both in the domestic and overseas markets failed to catch up with the expanding capacity.

According to CCM’s 4th edition report on China’s chlorpyrifos industry, in the past few years, the capacity of the domestic chlorpyrifos has been in serious surplus due to the lower entrance threshold of the chlorpyrifos industry and the blind capacity expansion of producers. Fortunately, with the issuance and implementation of the Pesticide Industry Policy, the most important national regulation that guides the development of China's pesticide industry, the production of chlorpyrifos is expected to become increasingly concentrated, and competition inside the chlorpyrifos industry will be of greater intense. Competitiveness of large-scale producers, such as Nanjing Redsun and Zhejiang Xinnong, will also become further improved, thanks to their advantages in production technology and sales channel. Meanwhile, small-scale producers are estimated to be phased out, due to their insufficient production and wastewater treatment technology.

CCM’s report features not only the updated situation of chlorpyrifos technical and formulations in China during 2008
–2012, but also a forecast on the chlorpyrifos industry development trend in terms of supply, export, price and demand by volume and value during 2013–2017. Some focuses of the report are highlighted as follows:

l  Identify key producers and potential producers of chlorpyrifos in China
l  Emphasize on market demand breakdown of chlorpyrifos by volume and value during 2008–2012, as well as the consumption structure by crops and regions during 2008–2012
l  Summary of the development status of China’s chlorpyrifos industry and the influencing factors of drivers and barriers
l  Forecast on the development trend of the chlorpyrifos industry in terms of supply, export, price and demand by volume and value during 2013–2017
l  Analyze China's position in the world’s chlorpyrifos industry from a global perspective
l  Explore commercial opportunities of the chlorpyrifos industry in China under the new global economy circumstance
l  Analyze substitutes of chlorpyrifos products in the domestic market

China to set up a general administration of food and drug

China plans to set up a general administration to enhance the status of the existing State Administration of Food and Drug in order to improve food and drug safety, according to a report to be delivered by State Councilor Ma Kai on March 10, 2013.

The proposed ministry-level General Administration of Food and Drug will be responsible for carrying out a unified supervision on food and drug safety and quality in the process of production, circulation and consumption. The General Administration of Food and Drug will integrate the responsibilities of the Food Safety Commission Office of the State Council, the State Food and Drug Administration, the production aspects of food safety supervision of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of China, and, the circulation of food safety supervision of the State Administration for Industry and Commerce of China.

Overlapping of supervision from different departments and some supervision "blind spots" are weak links of the current food safety supervision system, the report says. Some expert says that the industrial development is expected to promote since the complicated degree of administrative examination and approval will greatly simplify, after the new general administration for food and drug setting up.

Production of propanil during 1970s and 1990s

In 2012, the export volume of Chinese homemade propanil is sharply increasing, due to rising overseas demand, especially from Africa. In the next few years, this trend will continue, but growth is predicted not to increase as much as it did in 2012. There is still a chance for the propanil industry to further change its gloomy situation before 2012 if its future export remains stable. Actually, the domestic supply of propanil in China far exceeds its demand. Chinese propanil import is so small that CCM does not conduct import analysis on it.

In the 1970s, the former Shenyang Pesticide Factory was engaged in producing propanil. Then the production was stopped for a long time for some particular reason. In the 1990s, a large number of manufacturers were engaging in propanil production. However, the production was unstable and many of them had given up their production during these years. Later, some companies took a fancy to the market potential of propanil in China and set up production lines or enlarged their production capacities. Thus after 2000, the production of propanil developed rapidly in China.

As an old variety of herbicide, propanil has been produced in China for 50 years. There were four pioneer propanil producers in China: Formerly Wushun Pesticide Factory (500 t/a 20% EC) Formerly Hegang Pesticide Factory (200 t/a 20% EC) Formerly Hengyang Pesticide Factory Formerly Beijing Double-Bridge Pesticide Factory. However, little progress had been made in the following decades. The latter two manufacturers even closed or changed into other enterprises.

In some foreign countries, use of propanil is forbidden or restricted. In July 2003, Dow AgroSciences LLC, RiceCo LLC and Agrilliance LLC voluntarily asked to amend or cancel their product registrations to terminate the use of propanil on small grains. According to Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) No. 1078/2011, the placing of the active substance propanil products on the market doesn't have approval in the EU because of health concerns.

Production and Market of Propanil in China is CCM's second edition of its report on the Chinese propanil industry, completed in April 2013. This intelligent report attaches importance to the following parts:
1.       Production summary of propanil (its capacity, output and key manufacturers) and consumption summary by volume in China during 2010-2012.
2.       Detailed study of propanil's upstream industry (its supply, manufacturers, price, etc.)
3.       Price of propanil during 2007-2012 and the export of propanil technical and formulations during 2011-2012.
4.       Forecast of the Chinese propanil industry to 2017.
5.       Key factors influencing the development of propanil in China.
