Changchun Dacheng Expands Corn-based Monoethylene Glycol Capacity

CCM International has published Biomaterials China News, which is a brand-new newsletter. The first issue indicates that Changchun Dacheng Industrial Group Co., Ltd. (Changchun Dacheng), a large corn processing company in Jilin Province, is actively constructing a new corn-based chemical alcohol production line with capacity of 500,000t/a, which will be completed before the end of 2012.

Changchun Dacheng started the construction in H1 2011. According to Miss Ge, a staff from the sales department of Changchun Dacheng, total capacity of chemical alcohol in Changchun Dacheng will reach about 700,000t/a in 2012. The new production line will also mainly produce monoethylene glycol (MEG), propylene glycol (PG) and butylene glycol (BG), etc., the same as the existing production line of corn-based chemical alcohol.

There are three reasons to explain why Changchun Dacheng is actively strengthening its competitive advantages on corn-based MEG in China. Firstly, domestic demand for MEG still increases gradually in recent years. It is reported that China's import volume of MEG has increased to about 6.6 million tonnes in 2010 from about 5.2 million tonnes in 2008.

Secondly, it is estimated that China's import volume of MEG may reach above 7 million tonnes in 2011. As China pays more attention to environmental protection and energy safety, more and more oil-based MEG will be replaced by corn-based MEG in China.

Thirdly, since 2009, Changchun Dacheng has been cooperating with Donghua University and HTT Corporation Ltd. (HTT Corporation, a textile company located in Quanzhou City, Fujian Province), to develop Poly Dihydricalcohols Terephthalate (PDT, a new textile raw material produced by corn-based MEG).

Based on the above facts, although the development of domestic corn-based MEG industry is still facing some obstacles, like the limited demand and higher price, more and more domestic companies may invest in corn-based MEG with increasing new application fields and growing demand from downstream products in China.

Biomaterials China News will share you with more data and detailed reasons why Changchun Dacheng is actively expanding its corn-based MEG business. Don’t miss it. If you need free sample of this newsletter, please contact us at econtact@cnchemicals.com.
