Carpoly Actively Preparing for IPO

China's largest coating producer Guangdong Carpoly Chemical Group Co., Ltd. (Carpoly) is preparing for IPO, according to CCM’s November issue of TiO2 China Monthly Report.

It expects to raise funds of USD108 million by IPO for new projects of its subsidiary Guangdong Carpoly Scientific Materials Co., Ltd. (Carpoly Scientific). The IPO projects include two projects from Carpoly Scientific (210,000 t/a coating production and its auxiliary projects, high performance coating R&D center construction project) and two projects from Carpoly (marketing network transformation & upgrade project, information system upgrade project).

On 8 Nov. 2011, the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) proclaims the results of Carpoly's IPO Environmental Protection Inspection (EPI), which ranges over the period from 1 Jan. 2008 to 31 March 2011. After the inspection, the MEP decides that Carpoly's operations can meet the environmental protection requirements for IPO.

By now, Carpoly has seven wholly-owned subsidiaries (including a second-level subsidiary). With coatings capacity expansions over these years, Carpoly has a growing demand for TiO2. According to MEP's report, Carpoly consumed about eight thousand tonnes of TiO2 in 2010, up 29% year on year. Once Carpoly gets listed, its capacity of coatings will further increase, which is bound to lead to larger consumption of TiO2.

Editor’s Note
In Oct. 2011, China's manufacturing PMI fell back to 50.4%, with a great decline in import/ export order index and purchasing price index, and an increase in product inventory index. It indicates a relief of the inflation in China accompanied by an adverse external economic environment.

Meanwhile, China's CPI decreases for the third consecutive month and reaches 5.5%. In this case, Premier Wen Jiabao said on 25 Oct. the government would further fine-tune its macroeconomic policy by an appropriate degree at an appropriate time.

China's listed companies are under the inspection of Environmental and Social Responsibility now, and the companies to be listed must pass the Environmental Impact Assessment first, according to the 12th Five Year National Environmental Protection Plan released by the Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) on 9 Nov. 2011. China aims to reduce its CO2 emission per GDP by 17% between 2011 and 2015.

In the TiO2 industry, Sichuan Lomon and Shandong Dongjia successively attempted IPO in Nov. 2011. In addition to the strict environmental protection requirements, they also face the challenge of TiO2 price decrease in domestic market that lasts for four months due to the weak demand.

TiO2 China Monthly Report, a monthly publication issued by CCM International on 25th of every month, will penetrate into Chinese TiO2 market from a global view, deeply analyse TiO2 industrial chain and manufacturers’ competitiveness and trace the latest industrial hotspots and dynamics, aiming to provide the most valuable information about China’s TiO2 industry.

Lipase Demand in China is Estimated to be Prosperous

Compared with developed countries, the production development of China's lipase started later, and its output was not stable and most of lipase was imported before 2003 due to few producers at that time. With more and more producers starting production after 2003, the production situation turns better and the market develops relatively fast. From 2004 to 2010, China’s lipase output increased from 1,000 tonnes to about 2,500 tonnes with a CAGR of 16.2%.

In 2010, there are eight active lipase producers in China, such as Haining Jinchao Industrial Co., Ltd. and Tianjin Lihua Enzyme Preparation Technology Co., Ltd., etc.

In China, lipase is widely used in papermaking, backed food and other fields. The largest application field is papermaking, with consumption accounting for about 80% of the product's total consumption in 2009. The entire demand is not large but will be prosperous as estimated.

All the above findings are from CCM International’s report of Production and Market of Lipase in China, newly-released in November, 2011. If you are interested in this report, please feel free to contact us at econtact@cnchemicals.com.

Future Development of Gluco-amylase in China to Keep Stable

Gluco-amylase is an important part of enzyme market in China, most of which is exported. In recent years, the capacity and output of gluco-amylase have been increasing but at a modest rate. However, gluco-amylase's economic profit is usually unsatisfactory due to the large investment needed and its low price, especially for domestic market-oriented factories. Production situation of gluco-amylase has been gradually concentrated in large producers these years, while the small ones' market share has been shrunken.

Price of gluco-amylase fell in 2007-2008 despite price rise of raw materials and coal. But the price has kept stable since 2009 because of expanded application and domestic demand. Gluco-amylase, whose application is not so wide as that of α-amylase, is mainly applied in distilled spirits, beer and starch processing, with demand accounting for about 99% of the total demand for gluco-amylase from all application fields in 2009.

With mature and stable market, the future development of gluco-amylase in China will keep relatively stable in the future.

All findings are from CCM’s latest report of Production and Market of Gluco-amylase in China, published in November, 2011. If you are interested in this report, please feel free to contact us at econtact@cnchemicals.com.

Demand of Glucono-delta-lactone GDL to be Increasing in the Future

CCM International has published the third edition report of Production and Market of Glucono-delta-lactone in China in November 2011. The report reveals that the demand of glucono-delta-lactone will be increasing in the future.

China is one of the important producers of glucono-delta-lactone (GDL) in the world. The total output of GDL in 2010 reached about 16,000 tonnes. From 2007 to 2011, the production capacity of GDL has increased a lot, while the output has been dragged down by the impact of the global financial crisis and the rising production cost during this period.

At present, there are about ten GDL producers in China. Anhui Xingzhou Medicine Food Co., Ltd. (Anhui Xingzhou) ranks No.1 among producers nationwide.

The production technology is mature, which is the fermentation method with using glucose or corn starch as raw material. Meanwhile, two major different fermentation methods are applied in this industry in China. One is calcium salt method; the other is sodium salt method. Although fermentation method is relatively more eco-friendly than chemical method, fermentation method still causes some pollutant to environment. Attributed to the stricter environmental policy, the production cost is expected to increase.

In general, China is an important GDL export country in the world. Egypt, Germany and South Korea are the top three export destinations of China's GDL in 2010.

Foods and pharmaceuticals are the main consumption fields of GDL in China. In food industry, bean curd is the biggest consumption field of GDL. Thanks to the fast recovery of domestic food industry, as an innocuous food additive, the demand for GDL will be increasing in the future.

China’s Pectinase Production to Keep Increasing in the Future

CCM International has published the latest report of Production and Market of Pectinase in China, indicating that the production of pectinase will keep increasing gradually in the future.

Pectinase's production scale is relatively small compared with the main enzyme products in China, such as α-amylase and gluco-amylase. Before 2003, the demand for pectinase in China is met by foreign producers. But the situation changed thanks to the development of domestic producers after 2003. Tianjin Noao Sci & Tech Development Co., Ltd. (Tianjin Noao), Henan Yangshao Bio-engineering Co., Ltd., Shandong KDN Biotech Group are the major domestic pectinase producers now. In 2010, total output of pectinase reaches 961 tonnes in China with a CAGR of 12.40% during 2004-2010. In spite of this, some pectinase providers and users prefer imported high-quality products.

In China, pectinase is divided into two categories: acidic pectinase (pH3-pH5) and alkaline pectinase (pH8-pH10) according to the pH range. Acidic pectinase's research and application is relatively mature compared with alkaline pectinase. Almost all of domestic pectinase producers produce just acidic pectinase except for Shandong KDN Biotech Group who makes both alkaline pectinase and acidic pectinase.

Both alkaline pectinase and acidic pectinase are mainly produced by microbial fermentation method but with different microorganisms in China. Solid pectinase is produced by solid-state fermentation (SSF) method and liquid type by liquid-state submerged fermentation (LSSF) method.

With the development of pectinase market in China, production of pectinase will keep increasing gradually in the future.

China’s Output of α-Amylase Expected to Keep Growing

A new report, entitled Production and Market of α-Amylase in China published by CCM International in November 2011, shows that China's output of α-amylase is estimated to keep increasing in next five years.

α-Amylase is an important and the first enzyme industrially produced in China. Among various kinds of enzymes, its output is relatively large in China. Currently, there are three categories of α-amylase in the market: high temperature-resistant α-amylase, medium temperature α-amylase and fungal α-amylase.

Almost all of the α-amylase producers in China produce high temperature-resistant α-amylase and medium temperature α-amylase. The production of fungal α-amylase hasn't been industrialized in China until 2010 and the product is almost supplied by Novozymes and Jiangsu Wuxi Genencor Bioengineering Co., Ltd. (Jiangsu Wuxi Genencor). These two companies also share the major part of China's market of both kinds of α-amylase produced from bacterium and fungi.

In 2010, China's total output of α-amylase reaches 26,000 tonnes with 7.41% of CAGR from 2004 to 2010. In 2009, around 50% of its total output is consumed in distilled spirit's production. A large part of its output also goes to detergent, textile, wheat-based products and starch processing.

China's output of α-amylase is estimated to keep increasing in next five years, according to CCM International’s survey.
