VTR to Apply to be listed on GEM Again

Guangdong VTR Bio-Tech Co., Ltd. (VTR) is ready to apply for getting listed on  the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) again for the company's future development in mid-2012, according to CCM International’s February Issue of Industrial Biotechnology China News. Before, VTR had applied for getting listed on GEM in April 2011, but unfortunately, it failed.

Aiming to be listed on GEM this time, according to the VTR's new company environmental protection report in November 2011, it is claimed that the company has cut its fund raising programs from 5 to 3. One is the program of heat resistant phytase's and neutral phtase's technological improvement and their industrialization, and the other is the program of the marketing network service's construction. Therefore, the sum of the raised fund decreases from USD29.4 million to USD22.5 million. (TABLE) "Compared with the first failure, it is more optimistic about the second time that VTR has the potential to be listed on GEM in mid-2012." says Mr. Luo, Manager of VTR.

In fact, in April 2011, China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) commented on VTR's first listing failure mainly for the following three reasons. Firstly, the continued growth in accounts receivable balances, which accounts highly for the company's total assets, may have the potential risk of capital return. Besides, the decreasing sales volume of the company's main products, feed compound enzymes, and the uncertainty of the increasing sales volume of feed phytase would affect the company's business picture. The last main question is the uncertainty of enzyme market digestion of the fund raising program of enzymes product expansion existed.

Mr. Luo explains that the company's listing project of this time has been done a little fixing in connection with the CSRC's comment. As it mentioned above, the company has cut two fund raising programs to raise the opportunity to be listed on GEM. Also, although the common feed phytase market has been in over supply currently in China, Mr. Luo is confident on its company's product sales, especially as its heat resistant phytase industrialization has become true. The company has made some heat resistant comparisons on different brands heat resistant phytase and it is concluded that the heat resistance of VTR's product is better than the other's, said by Mr. Luo. Moreover, the company will launch its neutral phytase product in two years, which will make the company consolidate its domestic feed phytase market share.

However, even CSRC complains about VTR's fund raising program of enzyme capacity expansion, the company insists on the reservation of the enzyme capacity expansion attributed to the phytase's bright future. The program is to construct the second phase of enzymes production line with capacity of 12,000t/a, located in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Actually, the company that mainly produces phytase has the enzymes production line with capacity of 8,000t/a. Mr. Luo is optimistic about the phytase's bright future mainly thanks to the rapid growth of livestock and poultry industry. It is predicted that the meat consumption will be more substantial with the improvement of farmers' income in some regions of China. The document named The Twelfth Five-Year Plan of National Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Conservation and Utilization claims that the proportion of large-scale breeding of livestock and poultry in the whole nation will increase by 10%-15% by 2015. Phytase, which efficiently increase the animal dietary phosphorus utilization so as to reduce the feeding cost, will become the active stock in the near future.

VTR is a high-tech enterprise, which employs modern bioengineering technology and advanced techniques of botanic extraction and is committed to research, development and manufacture of feed additive and animal health products. Founded in 1991, the company is the first feed enzyme enterprise integrating a complete network of R&D, manufacture and sales. The company has achieved great progress and glories these years. In 2009, it drafted the determine method of feed phytase activity and determine method of feed xylanase activity. In 2010, "Yiduozyme" was authorized as the Famous Trademark in Guangdong Province.

Domestic Enzymes Preparations Industry to Have Fast Development under Chinese Government's Policy Support

The domestic enzymes preparations industry will have a good opportunity for development under the Chinese government's policy support, according to CCM International’s January Issue of Industrial Biotechnology China News.

Mr. Du, the Secretary-General of the China Biotech Fermentation Industry Association, explains the current situation and the development trend of enzymes industry related to the Chinese government's policy in details at the meeting of China Biotech Fermentation Industry Association (CBFIA), held on 8-9 December, 2011, an important meeting for Chinese biotech fermentation and relevant industry.

Mr. Du emphasizes that during the period of the Twelfth Five-Year Development Plan, the main direction is to accelerate the new series of enzymes industrial production and obtain their intellectual property rights in food, drug and environmental protection industry. Recently, there will be mainly 4 enzymes' areas for the national key new products of 2012 declaration plan from the Chinese government support:

 1. New kinds of food grade enzyme preparations in food processing industry
 2. New kinds of industrial enzymes preparations
 3. Toolenzymes
 4. Immobilization and regeneration of technical equipment of enzyme and coenzyme

Mr. Du claims that biocatalysis engineering will play a key role in the Twelfth Five-Year Development Plan of Biotechnology. During the period of the Twelfth Five-Year Development Plan, the Chinese government will not only build two main enzymes preparations production bases in Hunan Province and Shandong Province, but also plan to carry out the development of enzyme technology, such as biotransformation technology, highly expressed enzymes technology, enzymes' immobilization, coenzyme regeneration, multi-enzyme coupling, enzyme and chemical coupling, coupling enzymes and fermentation. More importantly, the key technologies of asymmetric and enantioselective, non-aqueous-phase catalytic reaction process optimization and bio-magnification technology will be developed fast. It will develop the enzymes bio-catalysis engineering technology which will have its own intellectual property right and the high quality with low cost industrial production, so as to improve the development and application of industrial enzymes in China.
In addition to the development of industrial enzymes, the utilization of the food by-product will be strongly advocated, according to Mr. Du. Take the protein-enriched beer residue as an typical example, Mr. Du says that the rest of the yeast from the beer residue can be made into the flavor agent—dextran through the effect of zymohydrolysis.

Last but not least, the Chinese government will establish a number of manufacturing sub-annual National Laboratory and National Engineering Research Center of the biological catalysts to encourage and support the establishment of foreign institutions in China, in order to enhance the bio-manufacturing technology innovation. Also, the Chinese government will support the establishment of enzymes, bio-clean production and recycling of industrial economies and other industrial innovation strategic alliances.

Mr. Du is optimistic about the future of the enzymes industrial development based on the current development of domestic enzymes industry. He cites the domestic enzymes output data from CBFIA, and the output of domestic enzyme industry has increased to 778,000 tonnes in 2010 from 480,000 tonnes in 2005. (FIGURE) Also, according to the latest statistics from CBFIA, the output of domestic enzyme industry has increased to 600,000 tonnes from January to August 2011, compared with 530,000 tonnes at the same period last year, whose grown rate has reached 13%.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government draws up revised plan of industry-standard system in order to regulate the increasing enzymes production. According to the latest 2011 third revised plan of industry-standard system from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of the People's Republic of China (MIIT), the industrial standard of catalase preparation and cutinase preparation are revised (QB/T 2444-2011, QB/T 2445-2011).

Future Development of Gluco-amylase in China to Keep Stable

Gluco-amylase is an important part of enzyme market in China, most of which is exported. In recent years, the capacity and output of gluco-amylase have been increasing but at a modest rate. However, gluco-amylase's economic profit is usually unsatisfactory due to the large investment needed and its low price, especially for domestic market-oriented factories. Production situation of gluco-amylase has been gradually concentrated in large producers these years, while the small ones' market share has been shrunken.

Price of gluco-amylase fell in 2007-2008 despite price rise of raw materials and coal. But the price has kept stable since 2009 because of expanded application and domestic demand. Gluco-amylase, whose application is not so wide as that of α-amylase, is mainly applied in distilled spirits, beer and starch processing, with demand accounting for about 99% of the total demand for gluco-amylase from all application fields in 2009.

With mature and stable market, the future development of gluco-amylase in China will keep relatively stable in the future.

All findings are from CCM’s latest report of Production and Market of Gluco-amylase in China, published in November, 2011. If you are interested in this report, please feel free to contact us at econtact@cnchemicals.com.

China’s Output of α-Amylase Expected to Keep Growing

A new report, entitled Production and Market of α-Amylase in China published by CCM International in November 2011, shows that China's output of α-amylase is estimated to keep increasing in next five years.

α-Amylase is an important and the first enzyme industrially produced in China. Among various kinds of enzymes, its output is relatively large in China. Currently, there are three categories of α-amylase in the market: high temperature-resistant α-amylase, medium temperature α-amylase and fungal α-amylase.

Almost all of the α-amylase producers in China produce high temperature-resistant α-amylase and medium temperature α-amylase. The production of fungal α-amylase hasn't been industrialized in China until 2010 and the product is almost supplied by Novozymes and Jiangsu Wuxi Genencor Bioengineering Co., Ltd. (Jiangsu Wuxi Genencor). These two companies also share the major part of China's market of both kinds of α-amylase produced from bacterium and fungi.

In 2010, China's total output of α-amylase reaches 26,000 tonnes with 7.41% of CAGR from 2004 to 2010. In 2009, around 50% of its total output is consumed in distilled spirit's production. A large part of its output also goes to detergent, textile, wheat-based products and starch processing.

China's output of α-amylase is estimated to keep increasing in next five years, according to CCM International’s survey.
