Hunan Province establishes nano-pesticide innovation alliance

Summary: In early Sept. 2014, with Hunan Provincial Crop Protection Industry Association as initiator, Hunan Nano-pesticide Innovation Alliance was set up. Many a university and enterprise helped its establishment. The members of the alliance will work together to explore the new nano-materials' application on pesticides, research and develop nano-insecticides, nano-fungicides, and nano plant growth regulators, according to Insecticides China News 1410 on October by CCM.
In early Sept. 2014, Hunan Nano-pesticide Innovation Alliance was set up. This alliance was initiated by Hunan Provincial Crop Protection Industry Association. Central South University, Hunan Agricultural University, Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Hunan Provincial Plant Protection Station, Guangzhou Nacomes New Materials Co., Ltd., Hunan Shenlong Super Rice High Yielding Biochemical Co., Ltd., Hunan Dongyong Chemical Co., Ltd. as well as other units also contributed to establishing the alliance. The members of the alliance will work together to explore the new nano-materials' application on pesticides, research and develop nano-insecticides, nano-fungicides, and nano plant growth regulators, which triggered an innovation in pesticide technology.
This alliance focuses on the following points:
1. Research the pesticide effect on the target, the invasion approach and efficiency of polypides and pathogens, and the improvement of bio-activity and effect of toxic killing;
2. Research the new nano-materials' application on pesticide processing, explore the formulas and processing techniques of nano-pesticides, improve the water-based dispersion characteristics of indissolvable pesticides, and advance the bioavailability;
3. Realize the efficient medicine carrying through encapsulation and adsorption, so as to realize the controlled release of medicines and to extend their durations;
4. Research on the accelerated degradation of pesticide residue to improve its environmental behaviour and biosecurity, reduce the residue and environmental pollution, reinforce the security of chemical prevention and treatment to ecological environment;
5. Improve the leaf-surface attachment, retention, and coverage of pesticides so as to enhance the effective availability and reduce the loss.
If nano-insecticides, nano-fungicides, and nano plant growth regulators developed by Hunan Nano-pesticide Innovation Alliance are successful, it will influence the picture of pesticide field, because these pesticides can resolve the disadvantages of most pesticides in the market: their effect, utilization, environmental protection, etc. Meanwhile this R&D technology will be the driving force of the technological innovation in other enterprises.

Supply of sodium borohydride in China appears superfluous at present

In China, sodium borohydride is widely used in various industries, including pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, intermediates, fine chemicals, electronic products, paper making, water treatment and perfume. Among them, pharmaceuticals industry is the largest application field, taking up 73% of consumption volume of sodium borohydride in 2013, which is different from overseas markets where paper making is the dominant field. Its consumption in electronic products, paper making, water treatment and perfume is quite small.

CCM recently finished a report named Sodium Borohydride Market in China, which reveals the production and consumption of sodium borohydride in China during 2010-2013 through the following key aspects:
- Key findings and market dynamics in the sodium borohydride industry
- Production situation of sodium borohydride (mainly during 2009-2013), including capacity, output, price, technology and competition among producers
- Consumption situation of sodium borohydride during 2010-2013 and introduction to major end-use segments
- Forecast on production and consumption of sodium borohydride during 2014-2018

The supply of sodium borohydride in China is superfluous at present, with just a 42.0% operating rate in 2013. Despite a steady increase in the past few years, the consumption volume of sodium borohydride in China is still small. As a result, there were no new entrants in the industry during 2010-2013.

Compared with 2003-2009, the production situation of sodium borohydride in 2010-2013 showed some differences. During 2010-2013, the capacity kept relatively stable at about 6,000 t/a with a CAGR of about 0.3%, while the corresponding growth rate in 2003-2009 was as high as 39.2%. In terms of output, it posted a CAGR of 25.9% in 2003-2009, which became merely about 8.8% in the past four years.

Currently, China is basically self-sufficient in sodium borohydride. Compared with its domestic output, the import volume is small. Many end-users in China claimed that they use homemade sodium borohydride, which is able to meet their demand both in quality and price. Besides, China exports a small quantity of the product to overseas markets.

The report is the 2rd edition of CCM’s series surveys covering China’s sodium borohydride industry. If you want to know more details of the report, please visit: http://www.cnchemicals.com/Product/Report/2359/Sodium-Borohydride-Market-in-China-Edition(2)

ST Jiyao to purchase Nanjing Titanium's 100% equities

Jilin Pharmaceutical Limited Company (ST Jiyao) announced its restructuring plan to purchase 100% equities of Nanjing Titanium Dioxide Chemical Co., Ltd. (Nanjing Titanium) with USD155.5 million. If the transaction is completed, ST Jiyao's main business will turn to TiO2 production, which has competitive strength and the company's profitability will be improved. Meanwhile, Nanjing Titanium's financial ability will be largely strengthened and it will be much easier for Nanjing Titanium to raise fund to expand, according to CCM’s December issue of TiO2 China Monthly Report.

It is reported that, in 2011, Nanjing Titanium produced 64,500 tonnes of TiO2 (36,700 tonnes of rutile TiO2 and 27,800 tonnes of anatase TiO2), accounting for 3.4% of the total TiO2 output in China. At the same time, operated by Xuzhou Titanium Dioxide Chemical Co., Ltd. (Xuzhou Titanium), a subsidiary of Nanjing Titanium, an 80,000t/a sulfate process TiO2 project will be put into operation during 2014 and 2015. Nanjing Titanium promises the company's profit will increase by at least 50% in 2015, compared with that in 2013.

Nanjing Titanium's TiO2 output volume ranked No. 8 in China in 2011. As for the cost in sulfate process TiO2 production (per tonne) in Nanjing Titanium during Q1-Q3 2012, main raw materials cost USD1,146, accounting for 55% of the total cost; power costs USD490, accounting for 24% of the total cost; labor costs USD90; manufacturing fee costs USD189; other fee costs USD155. Nanjing Titanium enjoyed a gross profit margin of 20.5% in 2011, which is lower than Henan Billions' 33.3% and Sichuan Lomon's 30.7%, but higher than Annada's 13.0% and CNNC Huayuan Titanium's -0.7%.

Nowadays, TiO2 price has decreased dramatically compared with that in July 2011 and investors start to worry about the prospect of TiO2 industry. However, as a staffer from ST Jiyao's investor relationship department said, "Even though TiO2 price has declined dramatically compared with that in 2011, it keeps stable now. TiO2 is widely used in coating, plastic and paper making industries and it is connected tightly to the whole economy. The national policies will influence TiO2 industry, so people needn't to be pessimistic about TiO2 industry". Besides, if the transaction is completed, ST Jiyao will get listed in H1 2013 at the soonest.

It is reported that at the end of 2011, the biggest shipbuilding company in Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province, Hengfu Shipbuilding Group declared bankruptcy. In Feb. 2012, Chongqing Kinlong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. followed the step of Hengfu Shipbuilding Group. In March 2012, Jiangsu Nantong Huigang Shipbuilding Industry also went into bankruptcy. Shortly afterwards, Zhejiang Jingang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. applied for bankruptcy protection.

At the same time, China CSSC Holdings Limited (CSSC) and Guangzhou Shipyard International Co., Ltd. (GSI), two big shipbuilding companies announced their semi-annual reports of H1 2012. As reported, the revenue and operating profit margin from shipbuilding business in both of the two companies decline dramatically compared with that in H1 2011. It can be observed that the shipbuilding industry encounters challenge of overcapacity. In order to gain more orders, the competition between shipbuilding companies becomes more and more fierce.
