In Nov. 2013, the total import value of
corn products in China witnessed a significant MoM increase of 1,359% while the
total export value increased slightly by 3% MoM.
The market price of wheat in China enjoyed
an obvious uptrend during June 2013-Nov. 2013, supported by government policy
and strong demand. While it declined slightly in Dec. 2013 due to weak demand.
The higher price of wheat caused many feed enterprises in China to replace
wheat with corn to produce feed in 2013.
The edible ethanol industry in China
underwent a downturn in 2013, due to weak demand for this product from the
spirit industry. The poor performance of spirit in 2013 could be attributed to
overcapacity and weak demand.
Recently, Henan Lotus has been committed to
cut costs. It is estimated that the company's measure on cost-cutting is
related to its net loss in 2013.
According to data from China Customs, the
export volume of China's furfural rebounded during Oct.-Nov. 2013. Increasing
demand also boosted the export price and domestic market price of this product
in this period.

shop at tmall.com in Dec. 2013, seeking to boost the sales of its end products.
On Jan. 7, 2014, Guangji Pharmaceutical
announced that the company would suspend its partial VB2 production line for
less than 30 days. If the price of VB2 remains low, the company may extend the
suspension time of this production line.

During Jan.-Nov. 2013, the export volume of
China's sorbitol increased by 24% year on year, while the average export price
of this product decreased by 9% year on year in the same period. The import
volume and import price of sorbitol both increased during Jan.-Nov. 2013.
The ex-works price of xanthan gum witnessed
a sharp downtrend in 2013, especially in H2 2013. The decrease in the price
could be attributable to the increasing supply, the slow growth in demand from
overseas markets, the weak competitive advantage and the weak cost support.
On Dec. 26, 2013, China returned 2,000
tonnes of DDGS to the US because they contained the unapproved GM ingredient
MIR162. This was favorable for domestic DDGS at the end of 2013, but the
prosperity of domestic DDGS will not last long.

According to data from CCM, the ex-works
price of corn germ meal averaged higher during H2 2013 than in H1 2013.
In Dec. 2013, the poultry
industry faced the challenge of frequent outbreaks of avian influenza again
after the industry had already suffered severe losses in H1 2013. However,
these outbreaks did not affect the prices of poultry feed additives.
