In Dec. 2013, the SA project of
Shanxi Zhengang, with an annual production capacity of 20,000 tonnes, was
formally put into production. The new production capacity may result in an
oversupply.
Wood-plastic composite (WPC),
which uses straw as one of the raw materials, brings business opportunities to
domestic enterprises because it can be used as a substitute for wood and
plastics. It possesses many strong properties because it combines the qualities
of wood and plastic. WPC will also increase Chinese farmers' income.
In Nov. 2013, China imported
12,028.3 tonnes of castor oil and its derivatives, with an average import price
of USD1,243/t. The import volume decreased while the import price recorded a
monthly increase from Oct. 2013.
China's import volume of fresh
cassava and dry cassava reached 42,349.9 tonnes and 601,512.0 tonnes
respectively in Nov. 2013.
In Nov. 2013, China's import
and export volumes of PLA were approximately 595.9 tonnes and 52.0 tonnes
respectively. The import volume increased, while the export volume decreased
compared to Oct. 2013.
In 2013, China's
polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) industry showed a good momentum of development.
China is a world leader in the R&D and production of PHA in view of the
good comprehensive performance of the PHA that is produced in China.
In 2013, the biological
polyethylene (PE) industry has achieved some progress, which promotes the
development of packaging industry. Some leading overseas enterprises are
actively developing green PE while some domestic enterprises are focusing on
their research of blended PE.
On Dec. 5, 2013, Kingfa
announced that it signed a framework agreement with the Xinjiang Production and
Construction Corps (XPCC), to promote over 467,000 ha. of biodegradable
agricultural film in XPCC's crop ecological region within the next three years.
The project of bio-chemical
synthesis technology of PBS initiated by Hexing Chemical receives strong
support from the government of Anqing City, Anhui Province. PBS has many
advantages over other biodegradable plastics, and has a very promising future.
On Nov. 19, 2013, a new,
eco-friendly and 100% degradable plastic—Xin Plastic Elf, was introduced by
Shenzhen Union Red Kite Holding.
On Dec. 10, 2013, the 65,000t/a
1,3-propanediol (PDO) and 1, 4-butanediol (BDO) production lines owned by Glory
Biomaterial were put into operation.
The domestic corn price
witnessed a decrease in Oct. 2013, before increasing slightly in Nov. 2013.
