Spirodiclofen registration becoming popular
According to
data from the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of
Agriculture of the People's Republic of China (ICAMA), spirodiclofen
registration is becoming popular. As of 24 Dec., 2013, there are totally 15
spirodiclofen registrations in China, nine out of which were approved in 2013.

formulations in China witnessed an increase of 23.75% year-on-year to about
2,464 tonnes, according to the China Customs and CCM.

According to
the prevailing sentiment in China, the food security is based on the
"bottom line": a minimum of 1.8 billion mu (120 million ha.) arable
land. However, according to David Liu, the former CEO of Longping High-tech,
equates 1.8 billion mu arable land with food security, is false.
Registration of fosthiazate becomes popular
Recently,
Jiangsu Jialong Chemical Co., Ltd.'s formal registration of fosthiazate
technical was approved, becoming the fourth company to obtain fosthiazate
technical registration in China. Meanwhile, registration of foshiazate
formulations is also becoming popular.
Agricultural application of methyl bromide to
banned from Jan. 2015 in China
On December 9,
2013, the Ban of Methyl Bromide & International Soil Disinfection
Technology Workshop were held in Guangzhou. The meeting indicated that the use
of methyl bromide had caused harm to the ozone layer even though it was an
effective soil fumigation agent. The application of methyl bromide in
agricultural industry will be banned from Jan. 2015 in China

In Nov. 2013,
on the Third Seed Treatment and Pest Control High-level Seminar, Dr. Li Xianbin
from ICAMA forecasted that the registration amount of seed treatment products
will double within two or three years, reaching 900. Besides, there will be
more new varieties (new AI or mixed formulations) to be registered.

China returns several batches of GM corn
containing MIR162
On Dec. 9,
2013, the Shenzhen Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine Bureau (SEEIQB)
returned a batch of corn from the US containing unapproved genetically modified
(GM) ingredient, MIR162. This is the second time SEEIQB returns GM corn from
the US this year. So far, several hundred thousand tonnes of unapproved GM corn
from the US has been returned by the Chinese government.
