RSPC Boosts Expansion of PTT Upstream Production Lines

CCM International has published the November Issue of Industrial Biotechnology China News recently. The top story is that Rongsheng Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (RSPC) accelerates its expansion of polytrimethylene-tereph-thalate (PTT) upstream production lines in 2011-2012, including three parts: Pure Terephthalic Acid (PTA) capacity expansion, paraxylene (PX) and mixed aromatic (MX) production lines' construction respectively.

Ms. Quan, the board secretary of RSPC, Yisheng Dahua Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (Yisheng Dahua), RSPC's subsidiary company, points out that RSPC will expand its PTA capacity from 1,200,000t/a to 1,750,000t/a at the end of 2011. And Zhejiang Yisheng Petrochemical Co., Ltd. (Zhejiang Yisheng), RSPC's another subsidiary company,  accelerates its third phase of PTA production line construction with capacity of 1,500,000t/a.

As of construction of PX production line and MX production line, Ms. Quan claims that the PX production line with capacity of 700,000t/a and the MX production line with capacity of 900,000t/a are being planned.

MX production line is prepared for PX production because MX is the raw material of PX. Ms. Quan emphasizes that the future strategy of RSPC is to develop PTA's upriver and downriver industry, especially PX production line, so as to guarantee the raw material supply of PTA.

Actually, RSPC's PX production line plays an important role in the construction of PTT upstream production lines. RSPC constructs the production line of MX in order to guarantee raw material supply of PX. It can be predicted that RSPC can produce PX itself in future, meanwhile, the fact of introducing the raw material of PX from other companies will become the past.

Promising Future of China’s Biomaterials Industry

Biomaterials refer to those use renewable materials as raw materials, which are mainly divided into 4 types: natural bio-based materials, microbial synthetic materials, chemical synthesis of bio-based materials and bio-nylon. Biomaterials have enjoyed fast development in China in recent years. And it is estimated that China’s biomaterials market will have a promising future.

Some kinds of biomaterials have achieved great process, and even have been industrialized by now, such as Poly (lactic acid) (PLA), Polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) and Poly (butanediol succinate) (PBS). Many domestic processors make efforts to expand capacity.

Take PLA for example, total production capacity of China’s PLA has reached 19,100t/a in April 2011, and it is estimated to reach 46,556t/a in 2015, with CAGR of 38.91%. With the release of Plastic Shopping Bags National Mandatory Standards in May 2008, Chinese government reduces the production, sales and use of plastic shopping bags, which provides more development opportunities for PLA.

Besides, domestic processors aim to exploit new market. A primary example is Anqing Hexing, also a leading PBS processor, has succeeded in getting a National High Technology Research and Development Programme (863 Programme) in September 2011, aiming to optimize the fermentation process of succinic acid and develop the PBS efficient polymerization process and materials processing technology by 2014. If Anqing Hexing succeeds, the company will expand its business not only in China but also in overseas markets easily.

In conclusion, China’s biomaterials market will have a promising future, and its focus on the country’s biomaterials industry is a good way for Chinese and multinational processors to cooperate or compete with each other!

All findings are extracted from the flyer of CCM International’s Biomaterials China News. You might find more details about other biomaterials. If you are interested in CCM International’s Biomaterials China News, please feel free to contact us at econtact@cnchemicals.com.

Zhejiang Heben Successfully Improves Synthetic Process of Difenoconazole

November Issue of Fungicides China News has been published by CCM recently, presenting that Zhejiang Heben Pesticide & Chemicals Co., Ltd. (Zhejiang Heben), one of the leading fungicide manufacturers in China, has successfully completed the innovation on synthetic process of difenoconazole.

Conventionally, difenoconazole is developed from 2,4-Dichloroacetophenone followed by etherification, bromination, ketal reaction and nucleophilic substitution, with an overall yield of about 70%.

However, Zhejiang Heben's new process of synthesizing difenoconazole has more advantages than the conventional method mentioned above. In detail, beginning with 3,4' -dichlorodiphenyl ether, difenoconazole is synthesized by acylation, condensation and cyclization, with a total yield of about 81%. What's more, the purity of difenoconazole can reach over 97%. Besides high yield and purity, this new method has other advantages, such as easy operation, short reaction time, little "three wastes", etc.

Zhejiang Heben constructed a 100t/a difenoconazole technical production line as early as 2007, thereafter the  company has gradually expanded its capacity to the current about 450t/a, says Mr. Li, Sales Manager of Zhejiang Heben. Moreover, most difenoconazole technical of Zhejiang Heben is exported to the overseas market.

Check the specific synthesis route of difenoconazole in CCM’s Fungicides China News 1111, together with major headline news below:

Pesticide Revenue of Syngenta Exceeds That of China Top 100 Players

CCM International released the latest issue of Crop Protection China News on November 15, 2011. It shows that total pesticide revenue in 2010 of the top 100 pesticide manufacturers in China can't even catch up with that of Syngenta.

As we know, China's pesticide industry has witnessed great development in the past few decades, and lots of excellent pesticide enterprises has emerged in domestic pesticide market. As reported in CCM international’s last issue, China Top 100 Pesticide Manufacturers come out, ranking by company revenue.

However, the tragedy is that the total revenue of China’s top 100 pesticide manufacturers can not even catch up with that of Syngenta, a foreign pesticide giant. Total revenue of China’s top 100 pesticide companies reached USD7,803.62 million in 2010, while the pesticide revenue of Syngenta reached USD8,900 million with a growth rate of 3% over 2009.

"We are just long-term contract workers of foreign pesticide giants even though we think we are good enough," said Professor Zhang Yibing from Shanghai Pesticide Research Institute. Most pesticide players in China agree with Mr. Zhang’s point of view.

"We provide technical products with high quality to foreign pesticide giants but only gain little OEM (original equipment manufacturer) profit," said an insider from a listed pesticide manufacturer.

Actually, most of the pesticide manufacturers whose names appear on the top of the list have kept good relationships with foreign pesticide giants in recent years. For example, Zhejiang Wynca Chemical Industry Group Co., Ltd., Hubei Sanonda Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Changqing Agricultural Chemical Co., Ltd., etc. are the main pesticide suppliers of Bayer in China; Jiangsu Yangnong Chemical Co., Ltd., Nantong Jiangshan Agrochemical & Chemicals Co., Ltd., Jiangsu Huifeng Agrochemical Co., Ltd., etc. are the main pesticide suppliers of BASF in China.

The identity of long-term contract workers being labeled on domestic pesticide manufacturers hinders their development. Aiming to survive in domestic pesticide market and account for more market shares, most domestic pesticide enterprises are more inclined to the production of off-patent pesticides and OEM production for foreign pesticide enterprises. However, without the support from strong policies and more investment in pesticide R&D from Chinese government, it may still be a long way to go.

You might discover more details in Crop Protection China News 1121 with following headline news:
-Anhui Guangxin's IPO application is rejected by China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC) on 2 Nov. 2011.
-Anhui Huaxing releases its Q3 financial report of 2011, showing a deficit in this period. Simultaneously, it announces that it will receive a subsidy of about USD11.81 million from the local government.
-Jiangsu Limin's application for environmental protection supervision submitted for IPO has been initially passed by the local government and is now waiting for the public notification.
-Total pesticide revenue in 2010 of the top 100 pesticide manufacturers in China can't even catch up with that of Syngenta in 2010. It is a painful reality and a serious alert to domestic pesticide players and Chinese government.
-China has laid great efforts to manage pesticide wastes problem and its cooperation with -German experts has started taking effect.
-The Ministry of Agriculture is going to fully implement the designated sales of high toxic pesticides in key vegetable planting areas.
-China's trade surplus of pesticide import and export in Jan. to Aug. 2011 reaches USD1,334.97 million, up 59.6% over the same period of 2010.
-A new pesticide-fertilizer called fungicidal and yielding pesticide-fertilizer WG gets appraisal from experts thanks to its good performances in controlling rice diseases and stimulating growth.
-More than 60% soybean processing enterprises in Heilongjiang Province suspend recently due to the difficulty of purchasing soybean and the intense market competition.
