Lier Chemical's full commercial production of glufosinate-ammonium takes time

According to Herbicides China News issued by CCM in August, as of the end of July 2013, Lier Chemical Co., Ltd. (Lier Chemical) is still unable to realize the mass production of glufosinate-ammonium technical. The office website of Panorama Network Co. Ltd. disclosed that Lier Chemical's project for 600t/a glufosinate-ammonium technical still needs time to achieve full commercial production, mainly due to the big technology barriers and the strict requirement for safety management. At present, Lier Chemical has been making great efforts to improve the production in the project. In addition, the company can now produce a small amount of glufosinate-ammonium technical. The glufosinate-ammonium technical is mainly used by the company itself to produce glufosinate-ammonium formulation, a salesman of Lier Chemical said.

The construction of Lier Chemical's 600t/a glufosinate-ammonium technical project which was initiated from late 2007 has lasted for almost six years. It is far behind schedule. (For more details, please refer to Herbicides China News 1112 and 1207: Lier Chemical's glufosinate-ammonium always late and Lier Chemical only supplies glufosinate-ammonium formulation)

As a high-end herbicide with excellent effect, Lier Chemical believes that glufosinate-ammonium business will be financially lucrative in the future, even though it is still unsatisfactory at the moment. It is reported that the consumption of glufosinate-ammonium is the second largest in herbicide-resistant GM crops in the world, behind that of glyphosate. The consumption of glufosinate-ammonium is likely to increase with the rapid development of GM crops.

However, the European Commission has recently announced that it would begin to restrict the use of glufosinate-ammonium on Nov. 13, 2013 because the product may cause harm to mammals and non-target arthropods. This will adversely affect the worldwide application of glufosinate-ammonium to some extent. Thus, the policy will also negatively impact the future performance of Lier Chemical's glufosinate-ammonium business. According to the company's original sales plan, 80% of glufosinate-ammonium that it produces will be for export.

In recent years, the number of glufosinate-ammonium registrants has witnessed notable growth. However, few companies in China are able to produce the product.

More and more pesticide manufacturers are showing an interest in glufosinate-ammonium, which is reflected by the registration quantity. As of late July 2013, 12 companies have gained registration certifications for glufosinate-ammonium technical in China, according to the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA). It is noteworthy that among the 12 glufosinate-ammonium technical registrations, eight were approved in 2013 and four were registered before 2012. The number of glufosinate-ammonium technical registrations in China has sharply increased by July 2013.

However, there were few manufacturers of glufosinate-ammonium technical that maintained normal operations for the product in the first half of 2013. According to the China Crop Protection Industry Association (CCPIA), only one domestic manufacturer, Yongnong Biosciences Co. Ltd. has maintained normal production of glufosinate-ammonium technical from May 2013 to June 2013.

Survey of Actual Consumption Situation of Succinic Acid in China

Succinic acid is a kind of basic chemical well-accepted in both China and worldwide. It has a wide range of applications, in addition to being used as raw materials of several chemicals, including 1, 4-butanediol (BDO), alkyd resin, PBS, etc., succinic acid can be also used as additives in agriculture, food , and other industries.

CCM’s 5th edition succinic acid report issued in August, namely Production and Market of Succinic Acid in China, outlines the current situation of China’s succinic acid market, including production situation, producers’ overview, raw material introduction, consumption situation, etc.

When it comes to the consumption situation of succinic acid in China, CCM will give readers a brief introduction to major end-use segments of succinic acid, including the consumption situation in such industries as food, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, electronics, and other ones.

According to the report, the food industry has been the fastest growing consumer of succinic acid over the past five years and it will also be one of the biggest growth points in the coming few years. Meanwhile, polybutylene succinate (PBS) will be the biggest growth point among the downstream products. With the expansion of PBS market, the consumption structure of succinic acid will change greatly in the next few years and PBS is estimated to become the largest consumption segment of succinic acid in China.

To reveal the actual consumption situation of succinic acid in China, CCM presents the report with the following statistics provided:
l  Consumption volume of succinic acid in main areas in China in 2012
l  Major end-users of succinic acid in disodium succinate production in China in 2012
l  Major end-users of succinic acid in daminozide production in China in 2012
l  Major end-users of succinic acid in dimetachlone production in China in 2012
l  Major end-users of succinic acid in the pharmaceutical industry in China in 2012
l  Some end-users of succinic acid in soldering flux production in China in 2012
l  Major end-users of succinic acid in PBS production in China in 2012
l  Capacity of major existing & potential PBS producers in China, as of July 2013
l  Major end-users of succinic acid in DMS, DES and DIPS production in China in 2012

Trade Analysis—A Vital Tool in Trading Business

With the globalization of economy in recent years, trading business has been playing a more vital role in the world’s economy development. People are in high demand for valuable intelligence relating to trading activities, so as to find out the latest trading situations of their target products, customers and competitors.

Since its establishment in 2001, CCM has been devoted itself to conducting market research on a variety of industries, including chemicals, energy, agricultural, life science, etc. As a leader in the field of market research for over one decade, CCM revealed that its trade analysis service aimed to offer the updated, objective and accurate statistics and summaries of target products to manufacturers, importers, and exporters across the world.,

According to CCM, the raw data of its trade analysis are obtained from China Customs, CCM’s independent research findings and other research channels, and finally analyzed by CCM’s experienced analysts.

“At present, China Customs can provide three types of raw data resources, namely 8-digit data, 10-digit data and port data. If people intend to purchase the data from China Customs and try to figure out a complete summary by themselves, it will take considerable time. That’s why we are committed to offering our clients trade analysis service,” introduced Mr. Du Hong Xiang, manager of CCM’s Client Center.

Mr. Du also revealed that CCM’s trade analysis will be more important for client’s business starting from this year, as China Customs is attempting to further tighten the access to the raw data resources. If so, China Customs will not provide the 10-digit data anymore. According to our observation and feedbacks from several clients, this new policy is quite likely to be implemented soon,” added Mr. Du.

According to CCM, once China Customs carries out the new policy, people will meet more difficulty in obtaining the market data they need. “We have successfully established a reliable and exclusive methodology in data processing and analytics, even without 10-digit data resources, we can still conduct accurate data summaries based on 8-digit data resources to meet client’s needs,” remarked Mr. Du.

The trade analysis by CCM, as introduced, can help clients indentify the export and import situations of target products in several industries, particular in chemicals and agricultural industries. Not only can it offer export volume, price, time, source, destination countries, specification, but also the information of exporters, manufacturers, etc.
