CCM International Announces New Publication on Turpentine Market in China

Driven by rigid demand from overseas market and increasing domestic consumption volume, China’s turpentine industry has developed fast in the past few years. With more than 3 years of research experience in turpentine industry, CCM International announces that it will publish a new report regarding production and market of turpentine.

In China, there are two kinds of turpentine, namely gum turpentine (GT) and crude sulphate turpentine (CST) which are by-products of gum rosin and wood pulp respectively. China is the largest producer of gum rosin in the world but poor in wood pulp production, so the most commercial product is GT.

The output of gum turpentine is greatly influenced by that of gum rosin in China. Although China has an abundant pine resource to guarantee sufficient supply for gum rosin production, the output of gum rosin has dropped in recent two years because of decreasing demand due to global economic depression after it hit a record high in 2006. Therefore, the output of GT also fell in recent two years.

Output reduction of turpentine has caused tight supply in recent two years, which is the main reason why its price maintained a continuous and rapid growth. And in recent years, with rapid development of derivative industries, domestic consumption volume of turpentine has been increasing.
